· Q: Why are Rice theses and dissertations made available online? Will this hurt my chances for future publication? For many years, universities have required that dissertations be shared publicly, since the ultimate objective of doctoral training is to produce scholars who can make public contributions to knowledge Dr. Clarence Miller for his many words of wisdom as thesis co-advisor, mentor and friend during my tenure at Rice University. Dr. George Hirasaki for serving as my thesis co-advisor and for his support and guidance throughout these years. Rice is a major crop that is cultivated by rainfed farmers and is therefore, vulnerable to increased variability in rainfall. The main aim of my thesis is to understand the climatic risks to rainfed rice cultivation, focusing on rainfed regions in India. I analysed historical data on monsoon and rice yield and found that more locations showed a collaboration directly contributed to this thesis | Marco Duarte, Shu Du, Shriram Sarvotham, and Ryan Stinnett, to name a few.
